Professor Steven G. Gey was diagnosed with ALS in the fall of 2006. There are countless students and faculty who have had the privilege to learn from and be inspired by Professor Gey. In an effort to raise awareness and funds for the War Against ALS, TEAM GEY - a group of over 40 current and former students, faculty, and friends - competed in a triathlon last March in Tallahassee, Florida. Our original goal was to raise $10,000, then $20,000, and we eventually surpassed that goal, raising over $40,000! Training and recruiting for Tri For Gey II have begun and although the triathlon has already reached its capacity of 300 competitors, over 70 of them will be members of Team Gey! We are still looking for volunteers, however, to help with fundraising, events, and support at the tri. This year, we hope to raise even more awareness and funds to battle ALS in honor of Professor Gey. While there is currently no cure for ALS, we should "TRI FOR GEY" because, as he has stated, "maybe we'll get a last-minute miracle after all."
